It's no secret that I love video and aim to capture as much of what we do with our youth teams on video as possible. A couple years ago, I purchased a basic GoPro camera and some standard GoPro accessories, one of which allowed me to mount the camera securely on a football helmet. At appropriate times I have done this and recorded practice video in hopes of gleaning valuable takeaways.
Did it work? Yes! No magic "a ha!" moments, but here's one thing: last fall we discovered through these videos that our quarterback was not tall enough to see over our offensive line on certain passing plays, so we modified those plays to be straight rollouts. The plays were then more effective in games. So it wasn't just cool video, it added value to our team! We have also put the GoPro on scout linebackers to see what our offense looks like from the defense's point of view.
